Hailey Verkolf - Author of "The Shattered Darkness"

Hailey Verkolf is a 19-year-old author based in The Hague, Netherlands, and her journey with writing already feels both thoughtful and deeply personal. From the way she speaks about stories, it’s clear that writing is more than a hobby for her & it’s something that gives her a sense of purpose.

Hailey has been writing for as long as she can remember. Like many writers, she started young, creating small, imaginative stories as a child before moving on to fan fiction during her high school years. After stepping away from writing for a few years, she found herself drawn back in when she rediscovered her love for reading. That return to books reignited her passion for storytelling and eventually led her to take writing seriously, culminating in the publication of her first novel.

Although Hailey enjoys reading modern books, especially contemporary romance, her own writing style naturally leans toward something more classical. As she worked on her debut novel, she noticed her storytelling becoming more lyrical and poetic. While she’s open to experimenting with different styles in the future, the voice she writes in now feels authentic and truly her own

Imagination and storytelling are at the heart of what inspires Hailey’s work. She describes her writing style as poetic and expressive, and she has a beautiful way of explaining how she wants her stories to feel. If her writing were a feeling, she says it would be like music, similar to a violin. Soft and elegant at times, but also intense and emotional when needed. Above all, she wants her stories to linger with readers and leave a lasting impression.

She primarily writes fiction, focusing on romance, love stories, fantasy, and magical realism. Her list of favourite authors includes H.D. Carlton, Harley Laroux, Ana Huang, Sarah J. Maas, and Oscar Wilde, reflecting both her love for emotional storytelling and her appreciation for lyrical language.

She has been writing for over five years and is now a published author. Her debut novel, The Shattered Darkness, is the first book in The Crescent Moon series. While writing the book itself came fairly smoothly, the self-publishing process proved to be challenging. From formatting issues to technical setbacks, Hailey faced several obstacles along the way. Still, she stayed persistent and is proud of having seen the project through to the end.

Book Details:

Hailey’s main goal as a writer is simple yet powerful: to share stories and ideas. She believes in the lasting impact of storytelling and hopes that her work will continue to resonate with readers on an emotional level.

Currently, Hailey is working on the second instalment of The Crescent Moon series, continuing to build the world she introduced in her debut novel.

Introducing the Blogger

As the founder of this blog , I wear many hats, each shaped by the same love for stories and expression.  I’m Renuka Srija , the author of Hues of Poetic Essence & Words of My Soul, a book born from emotions I’ve lived and words I couldn’t keep silent. Writing, for me, has always been personal, a way of turning feelings into language. Beyond being an author, I’m also a graphic designer and PR head, where visuals and communication come together to tell meaningful stories. I’m the founder of Hyderabad’s book club, The Reader’s Circle, a space created to bring readers and writers closer. Currently working on my first novel, I continue to explore new ways of storytelling, honest, heartfelt, and deeply my own. Hoping to post more about all the debut and upcoming Authors and about their books.
